This song is ‘Videotape’ by Radio on ‘In Rainbows’ and is available in iTunes & amazon.
very interesting. i like it very much.
The video is very hypnotic. I like it but it kicks up a few opposing feelings for me. It’s funny to watch because on the one hand, it’s very precious and self-indulgent and if I didn’t know you, I’d think, “Who is this pretentious douche?” On the other hand, it’s really visually beautiful, the slow motion, strobes at just the right time with the colorized effect especially paired with the music. I’m also kind envious that you have the balls to expose yourself like this. As I converse with myself internally about what you’re doing here I find you inspire me to want to do the same. The real powerful take-away for me is that you are a man and in this culture men aren’t supposed to videotape themselves shirtless to Radiohead with multicolored effects AND take themselves seriously. But you did and I applaud you for it. I say keep doing it.
MB21 & Justin,
Thanks for the input. I do agree it’s a self indulgent move. For sure. But so is eating. I feel I’m in charge of this ball of energy hurdling through time and space. And that means taking care of this creature that believes it exists, making sure it gets food and water and that it’s emotions are also tended to. And that is what I’ve been working a lot on lately. Rather then burring emotions and having them clamp up into a migraine, having them and also then being able to more accurately respond to the life situations I find myself in. Have the emotions, accept them and then let my new state be more intuitive and taking better care of this ball of energy I refer to as I.
So I wasn’t planning to post that. I was just basically freaking out cause I was going through a lot of emotions. Radio Head helps me do that. I’d actually been freaking out way worse then that in a way that wasn’t captured on film the day before. So in away, this is an artistic representation of real emotions that I as a real human being feel. If I was completely making it all up and was having actually a chipper day then I’d never have bothered with that type of expression. If anyone is going to be inspired by I’d prefer they focus on that part. Having emotions that trigger artistic expression that is then honored and put out there even though a risk is required.
I have no major desire to even really use or expose myself just for the sake of it, but when there is something to say, I feel it’s good that it’s said, and if words can’t say it, use webcams, digital effects and Radio Head. And if saying to yourself isn’t enough, say it online, create the feedback loop and let others know you are real, not just pixels and ideas. So it’s not a creation. That’s why it’s okay that it’s not my music. And there is no story. Or writing. It’s simply an expression of a state of mind I have entered many times and I wouldn’t be surprised if others do too. I ask for no applause creatively, those are simply effects in FCP that I’ve used a million times.
For those wondering, it’s the stop motion blur filter with the steps put to 10 and the delay put to 1 and the composite mode put to screen and the opacity brought down until it looks insane.
yeah, I quite agree with Justin C.: visually beautiful, but considering that its not a music video to your own music… kinda… self-indulgent. that’s not to say that I don’t like the video.. I just haven’t made up my mind yet.. so keep on doing stuff like that, it’s interesting! 😀
thanks a lot for the comment/background information!
yeah, I kinda know the feeling.. freaking out and rescuing yourself to the next mirror/camera to see what’s there and what to make with it.. guess that’s one of the better moods to be creative.. dunno 😉
